Information about the
model:
A ship is one of the toys that has always
reflected Man’s homesickness and his desire to conquer the seas.
For that reason it has always had an appropriate place in the
Märklin program in all sizes. There you would find in addition
to sailboats and frigates with elaborate and colorful paintwork
the first steam ships and paddle wheel boats. In addition to
these models of ships and boats there were also the richly
equipped ocean liners, a sought after export item as early as
the turn of the century.
The “Viktoria” steam ship’s design and
paint work reminds one of the “Rhein” ocean liner model that was
produced in 1919 by Märklin. This model of ship was a very good
reproduction of the latest (at that time) Hapag-Lloyd steam
ships and represented a small work of art with its three stacks,
its sides with window and portholes, the masts and rigging as
well as the small life boats.
